Garden — Terms of Use

Last updated: 18 August 2026

These terms apply to the Garden mobile app. On iOS, subscriptions are additionally governed by Apple's Standard End User License Agreement, available at https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/.

By using Garden, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

1. Garden is not medical care

This is the most important term here. Garden is a self-tracking and motivational tool. It is not a medical device, not a treatment programme, and not a substitute for professional help from a doctor, therapist, or addiction specialist.

Hope, the in-app chat companion, generates responses using an automated language model. It is not a therapist, counsellor, sponsor, or crisis service, and its responses may be inaccurate. Do not rely on it for medical, psychological, legal, or emergency guidance.

If you are in crisis or at risk of harming yourself, contact your local emergency services or a crisis line immediately. Garden cannot detect an emergency and cannot summon help.

Withdrawal from some substances — alcohol and benzodiazepines in particular — can be medically dangerous. Speak to a doctor before stopping.

2. Who may use Garden

You must be at least 16 years old. Garden is intended for personal, non-commercial use.

3. Your data lives on your device

Garden stores your check-ins, garden, and settings locally on your phone. We keep no account for you and no server-side backup.

This means: if you delete the app, lose your device, or reset your data, your history is gone permanently and we cannot recover it. Chat is the one feature that sends information off your device — see our Privacy Policy for exactly what and why.

4. Garden Plus subscriptions

Garden includes a free trial period, after which continued access requires a subscription. The trial is granted by the app itself and does not require payment details.

end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the period ending.

Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.

5. Acceptable use

Do not use Garden to break the law, attempt to disrupt or overload the service, work around rate limits, reverse-engineer the app, or submit content designed to manipulate the chat model into harmful output.

We may limit or end access if the service is being abused in a way that degrades it for others.

6. Availability

Garden is provided as-is. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. The chat feature depends on third-party services and may be unavailable, rate-limited, or withdrawn. Features may change or be removed as the app develops.

7. Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost data, or for any decision you make in reliance on Garden or on Hope's responses. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

8. Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes, and the date above will change. Continuing to use Garden after that means you accept the revised terms.
